- guidance on managing staff capability if they are no longer able to do the role they were employed for

Employer Advice

This presents a significant opportunity for businesses to receive valuable advice on managing their employees' health.

By participating in the DWP's workplace health assessment pilot, businesses can proactively address these challenges.

The DWP covers 80% of the assessment costs, while the employer only needs to contribute 20%.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This is usually known as an occupational health assessment and includes services such as fitness for work or return to work assessments and management referrals to get advice on how to support an employee.

The scheme is being offered because SMEs are less likely to use occupational health services than large employers. Government aims to increase access to quality occupational health services because it can help businesses to remain productive and prevent individuals falling out of work due to health or disability. In our consultation Health is Everyone’s Business, we found that a majority of respondents supported a potential financial incentive to help SMEs and self-employed people to overcome barriers to accessing occupational health.

The pilot is for employers who are based in Cumbria, Lancashire and Barrow-in-Furness and is only being marketed to employers within these areas. The service will continue to be available in these areas after the Pilot finishes.
